Tomato Rasam Recipe(Tomato Charu)

  Tomato Rasam , a delicious and aromatic South Indian soup made with ripe tomatoes,       spices and curry leaves.This aromatic Tomato Rasam is not only easy to make but also   makes a comforting side in your meal.

 Well-Known for its health benefits, it is a gluten-free and vegan dish that aids digestion, increases immunity and helps in detoxifying.

  Tomato Rasam , as the name indicates is made with lots of fresh ripe tomatoes. And also   known as Thakkali Rasam in Tamil and Tomaton Charu in Telugu.

 Here, we can make tomato rasam with chopped tomatoes, pressure cooked tomatoes or   pureed tomatoes. In the stepwise photos I will show the recipe using pressure cooked   tomatoes which is easier method.

 1. Take a pot,  I am taking 250 grams  tomatoes and  add the chopped tomatoes into the   pot and pour 2 cups of water, add  2or3 tamarind strips  for sourness, add  little jeera and     turmeric for tasty.

 Now turn ON the stove and put pot on stove,  keep boiling the tomatoes till it becomes   smooth.

 2. Now take a pot, turn the tomatoes mushy and pour some water into it , filter the rasam

    and keep aside.

 

   We need the ingredients for Tomato Rasam are

    a. 1 green chili & 1 red chilli

    b. mustard seeds

    c. jeera seeds

    d. 1 bay leaf, 1 clove, 1cinnamon stick

    e. little pepper powder

    f. curry leaves

    g. red chili powder

    h. coriander powder

    i. dry  coconut powder

    j. turmeric powder

    k.  3or4 clove of garlics

 

  3. Take a pan and heat it, add the 1 tablespoon oil or ghee. Add the  mustard seeds, jeera       seeds, green chili & red chili, curry leaves and spices( bay leaf, clove, cinnamon stick)    and fry it for a 1 or 2 mins.

  4. Add the chopped garlic and turmeric powder in to a hot pan and miv it well to get

brownish  color of garlic.

  5. Pour the strained Rasam or soup in to a hot pan and boil it for 2 mins

 6. Now, add the red chili   powder(as per our taste),  salt, coriander powder, coconut powder and last add little pepper powder.  Boil  the rasam for 7 to 8 mins and turn OFF the flame. Our Tomato Rasam Recipe is ready.

  7. Serve the Tomato  Rasam Recipe (Tomato Charu) with  Rice and a stir fired vegetable on the side.

You can also serve this as an appetizer.
