Pappu Charu Recipe(Toor Dal Rasam)

 

   Pappu charu is a simple lentil soup from Telangana cuisine. It is similar to sambar but without using sambar powder. It is a traditional     recipe and commonly eaten with a meal along with rice & fried veggies.

 The basic version Pappu Charu is made with onions and tomato. However, I also make and post this with lots of veggies like Bhindi, Potato , Drumsticks and Brinjal.

How to make pappu charu with Drumsticks

  1.Wash and cook 1/2 cup dal with 1/4 cup of water, add green chilies, Tomatoes, cumin/jeera seeds, turmeric, 3 garlic and curry                     leaves(optional) into the vessel.

  2. Here I am cooking without pressure cooker, keep vessel on stove, turn ON the flame, keep the flame in medium. Cook until the lentils     become soft and tender, if need add some water into it. Let it cook until they break down and turn mushy.

  3.Ingredients for Recipe:

    •   a. Toor dal (kandi pappu)

    •   b. 5 to 6 green chilies

    •   c. Tomatoes

    •   d. Garlic

    •   e. curry leaves

    •   f.  turmeric

    •   g. mustard seeds

    •   h. cumin/jeera seeds

    •   i.  red chilies

    •   j.  onions

    •   k. drumsticks

    •   l.  tamarind (lemon size)

    •   m. coriander powder

    •   n. salt

 4. Soak tamarind in cup and squeeze it &set aside. Pour 2 tablespoon oil or ghee into a hot pan. When it turn hot add cumin/jeera seeds,   mustard seeds, they get into splutter now add red chili, curry leaves, onions, drumsticks and last add some turmeric. Mix it well.

 5. Filter the tamarind water and add the 1 cup of water into it.

 6. Add coriander powder and salt for taste in to hot pan, keep it boiling for 3 to 4 mins. Now add the mashed smooth dal into it and stir it well. Check salt and adjust what ever you like.`

 7. When the Pappu Charu comes to a boil, switch off the stove and add the coriander leaves with (I am not added) and keep it covered.

8. Our Pappu Charu is ready. Now, You can Serve  Pappu Charu with rice, idli, chapati and jowar roti aslo.
